Awesome! I'm a huge shmup fan and I can't wait for this game. It's unfortunate that I've never had the pleasure of actually playing it so I anxiously await its arrival on XBLA.
Now all I have to do is go back and pick up Triggerheart Exelica once I get some more money...
Yeah, it certainly seems to be the stuff of legend - it'll be interesting to see if it can live up to its name. Although I'm more than a little skeptical - I hope this doesn't head down the same path as Street Fighter II.
mgg
These achievements are disappointing. Getting an A on a level is SO much easier than getting an S rank and, come on, an achievement for just beating each level? No achievements for getting a high score?
You have failed, Treasure.
You have failed, Treasure.
They failed because you don't get an achievement for getting a high score?
Besides, until the game's actually out, we've no clue what the developer's done to it as far as game mechanics goes. This one could be tweaked to be much harder for all we know.
They failed because the achievements are awful. They aren't even really achievements at all. Beating all the bosses is fairly easy and so is finishing a level without firing a shot. A ranking is not even that hard to get. S rank too way more skill.
Pretty disappointing achievements. If a game like Triggerheart can have achievements as hard as beat the game without dying at all AND seeing every form of all the bosses then why can't Ikaruga be tough on gamers, too?
And why do they fail for not having a high score achievement? Because that's the whole damn point of Ikaruga. The way Ikaruga was meant to be played was getting the highest score possible using combos. It just shows that whoever made these achievements doesn't understand Ikaruga.
Uh... pretty sure the developers of the game (y'know.. Treasure) made these Achievements, because they have to be specifically programmed in the game. Soooo, maybe their vision of Ikaruga simply differs from yours.
And maybe I 'suck', but I was never able to fully complete the game on the GameCube, I remember getting to maybe the third or fourth level. Maybe you were just playing it on easy
Playing on Easy? Sorry, but I don't. I actually beat games.
Getting A ranking in Ikaruga is really not that hard. Go ask anyone who's taken the time to really learn the game.
ikaruga.co.uk Go ask them.
You're gamer score completion states otherwise at 66%. You seem angrier than necessary over these achievements.
FYI, most shmup fans will find those challenges simplistic. It's great that they're accessible to the average player, but it really doesn't cater at all to the more hardcore demographic (see: ikaruga.co.uk). Completing the game on one credit is the most difficult of those, and for most shmup players that is only the BEGINNING of the challenge. Chaining the full level, getting a high score... some score based achievements would have been nice.
Hmm don't these have to add up to 1000? My guess is just the unlocked achievements, the rest (S++ Rank) is locked - just a theory
Ikaruga is coming to the XBL Arcade so it only has to add up to 200 GS.
"Getting A ranking in Ikaruga is really not that hard. Go ask anyone who's taken the time to really learn the game."
Exactly, and this is a good thing. These achievements are for people new to Ikaruga and/or learning the game. They are something much of the XBLA audience naturally focuses on trying to achieve, probably moreso than actual high scores.
But achievements aren't a good way to accurately measure high level progress. For that are the high scores and the leaderboards. Having achievements that extensive would just be redundant and defeat their purpose.
