Thanks for these, Morgon, I'll send these along to some people who have been waiting for this game.
Reminder: This is for Games for Windows also.

I use to spend so much money on this damn game.
Even went to a tournament or two.
Was a great card game, but ended up going overboard with the constant expansion releases! tongue.gif
I still have a lot of the old cards.

Decent achievement list, I'm cautiously optimistic about this.

I love M:tg, I still have a bunch of my old cards, and I still play the old PC game, but I don't know about the 360 version yet.
One, it would be nice if they had some of the old cards in it, a lot of the newer cards are copouts, and two, you can't even create your own deck!? what the hell is that!? I hope they fix it before it's released, or it's going to bomb horribly.

Yeah what is the point of having a card game where you can't make your own deck up! wacko.gif
That is the whole point of it, your strategy of play and deck construction against your opponent. biggrin.gif
I never got around to playing any of the pc/console games.

And what about the early days of buying those cards and getting yet more land cards.
You could bury yourself in them with all the spares!! laugh.gif

I think this would have been a perfect outlet for micro-transactions.

Think if you paid 400 MSP ($5) for the application and a starter deck, and could buy decks with random cards (using the same rules of the printed cards - 1 rare, a few Uncommon, etc) for, say, 200 MSP each, or a Booster Pack for 80 MSP (Prices might need to be adjusted, but you get the idea)

Hey that is all good ideas, but of course it is how they execute it and charge.
But yeah they could have it as a arcade game, and definately have the boosters at the low end of charges.
They could also have the old system of a random card drawn from each players deck, and the winner unlocks those cards for their deck as a prize. (No one would lose a card from their deck.)

When does this come out? I really wanna play this now.

**thinks back to his days in college playing MTG til dawn bilding decks and wasting loads of cash on cards that now collect dust in the top of my closet**

  10. Morgon says:

I hear ya (though it was High School for me - shows my age, maybe :-/ ). I actually brought a couple of decks to PAX a couple of years ago, but they've changed the rules so much since some of the recent expansions, it's tough to compete.

  11. Chaotic Pattern says:

I've been playing M:TG since Revised and Fallen Empire (gosh, it has been 15 years), I'm really liking this format.

Not being able to have better control over the pre-made decks can be annoying for advanced gamers (you can add unlocked cards to your deck but you cannot take existing cards out). However, I completely understand why they've steered away from custom deck construction:

1. They wouldn't want to cannibalise (or devalue) their two main flagship products the physical card game and M:TG Online.

2. Taking away the variable of cards make the tournament more evenly matched -- the pre-made decks are very balanced.

My only gripe with the game is to do with automatic mana distribution. The last challenge lets you play with a three colour deck. The game decides which lands to tap and have been caught in situations where I wanted to use one black and one red but it tapped two red instead, leaving me with no more red to use for my shock spell.

  12. Dr Draco5 says:

Overall, would you say it's worth the MSP? I've been debating whether or not I should buy it.

I have some fond memories of that game. Started with Ice Age and 4th Edition, but stopped collecting with 6th Edition. Still play it on occasion with my brother, cuz he has all of our cards. But man, I still remember endlessly sorting and re-sorting my cards and building deck after deck. Always loved playing blue/green or green/red colored decks.

    Anyhow, what's everyone's opinion?

  13. Morgon says:

Coming from another old-school Magic player, I I believe it's extremely worth it.

Sure, you don't have any deck-building (which is a portion of Magic: The Gathering), but that means you're not spending hundreds of dollars on getting enough cards to make something worthwhile. Instead, everyone has the same cards available (assuming you unlock them via battle against the CPU), and it comes down to the luck of the draw, and the skill to use what you have available (playing 'for the moment' instead of hinging your battle on one card).

The game has a few bugs in it, but I believe Stainless Games and Wizards of the Coast are committed to squashing these (after all, they did mention that DLC was coming in some form, they'd have to patch in order for people to buy it). I figure for the low price barrier to entry, if you just want to play some Magic, you'd be doing yourself a disservice if you didn't at least play the demo.

  14. Dr Draco5 says:

Well, I think I'll definitely give it a shot. Thanks biggrin.gif
