Since more and more people are asking questions, it sounds like it’s time to make a post about the MGC GamerCard service.
First, let me apologize for not posting about this sooner, but my attention has been mostly focused on testing and attempting to resolve the issues.
Over the weekend, a number of upgrades had taken place to the existing servers. It seems that all of them have been impacted in some way, but none moreso than the ‘primary’ GamerCard server, which has taken on some very odd issues. Most of the up-and-down nature of the servers have been due to me attempting to dive into what the deal is.
Just be aware that I am absolutely on top of it, and actively attempting to solve it. Most of my waking hours have been devoted to investigation and testing, and I haven’t had more than 4 - 5 hours of sleep any night this week. Since any changes I make require at least 30 - 60 minutes of ‘warm-up’ time to gauge the effects, it’s been fairly slow-going. One large downside to being the creator of many of the technologies that make much of MGC possible is that there are often no resources to consult when things go wrong!
In the interim, I’ve brought up one of the older servers to help deal with the load. This will also give me an opportunity to study how it holds up versus the current machines, once it starts serving a decent number of requests. Right now I don’t know if it’s Operating System-related, webserver-related, interpreter-related, etc. Once I get more data, I can potentially fix the problem once and for all.
I deeply thank you for your patience. Things will likely be bumpy for the next few days, but be assured that I’ll do everything in my power to get things running as smoothly as you’re used to.
